ecoTech provides nationwide IT asset disposition (ITAD) services for businesses and organizations. We coordinate collection, data security, reuse evaluation, value recovery and documented final outcomes for equipment refreshes, facility moves and ongoing retirement programs.
A practical plan for IT asset disposition
IT asset disposition, or ITAD, is the process of moving equipment out of service and into an approved next use or final disposition. A well-defined program accounts for ownership, stored data, equipment condition and the records your organization needs to close out its asset register.
We work with IT, finance and procurement teams to establish those decisions early. Your priorities may include recovering residual value, clearing space before a move, retiring an entire device fleet or keeping separate business units on the same reporting schedule.
What Our ITAD Services Include
- Collection and transportation planned around your equipment and locations.
- Asset identification and inventory reconciliation at the agreed level of detail.
- Data sanitization or physical media destruction based on your security requirements.
- Equipment evaluation, remarketing and value recovery for suitable assets.
- Responsible recycling for equipment without a viable reuse route.
- Disposition records and project reporting for your internal teams.
Equipment worth evaluating before retirement
Recent or serviceable equipment may retain value even when it no longer meets your organization’s needs. Common candidates for evaluation include:
- Business laptops, desktops and workstations
- Servers, enterprise storage and networking equipment
- Memory, processors and other reusable components
- Mobile devices and selected telecommunications equipment
- GPUs and compute hardware from AI and data center environments
Provide model numbers, quantities, specifications, condition and any known faults. Also flag leased equipment, financing interests, account locks or restrictions on resale. These details influence both the available disposition routes and the usefulness of an initial valuation.
How value recovery decisions are made
Recovery value depends on the equipment’s market demand, age, condition and completeness, together with the work needed to make it suitable for the approved next use. A preliminary estimate may change after inspection or testing. Collection, processing and data services also affect the overall economics.
We define the evaluation and settlement approach with you before proceeding. The project should make clear who authorizes resale, how exceptions are handled and what information will accompany the final reconciliation. Equipment that cannot be responsibly reused can be directed to electronics recycling.
Data security comes before release for reuse
We coordinate media sanitization or physical destruction around your approved security requirements. Suitable sanitization can preserve an asset’s reuse potential; a policy requiring physical destruction may change the available recovery options.
The NIST Guidelines for Media Sanitization provide a framework for choosing controls based on information sensitivity and media characteristics. Your project scope should identify the required method, verification and records, including how media that cannot be successfully processed will be handled.
Records that help close the asset lifecycle
Define the required level of detail before collection. An ITAD project can include asset identification, receipt reconciliation, disposition results and a statement of recovery value under the agreed commercial terms. Specify which equipment needs serial-level reporting and how your internal asset IDs should appear.
For larger programs, coordinated reverse logistics can standardize collections across locations. Reporting can then be grouped by project, site or department, making it easier to compare the retired asset list with completed outcomes.
For programs that require consolidated records, our sustainability and compliance reporting service can help organize the information required by your team.
Questions about ITAD and value recovery
Will every asset generate a payment?
No. Some equipment has little resale demand or requires more work than its recoverable value supports. We consider those costs and limitations when discussing the program, so the decision is based on the overall project economics.
Can we require destruction of storage media and still recover value?
Potentially. Other components or the remaining equipment may retain value after media removal. We can review that option against your security policy, equipment configuration and the cost of the additional work.
When should we start planning?
Start when the refresh or retirement schedule becomes clear. Early planning gives your team time to resolve ownership, release approvals and account locks, and helps avoid unnecessary delays between retirement and evaluation.
Review our certifications and facility and office locations when evaluating your project. Certification scope and service arrangements should be confirmed for the facilities and work involved.
