Final Disposition

ITAD

Also known as: Final asset outcome · disposition reporting · final processing · end destination

The documented outcome of retired equipment, components, or materials, such as redeployment, resale, donation, material recovery, or permitted disposal. Transfer to a broker or intermediate processor does not by itself demonstrate the final outcome. In R2 downstream recycling terminology, final disposition has a more specific meaning tied to completion of the required final processing for controlled materials. Records should distinguish the equipment’s outcome from the sanitization or destruction of its data.

What closeout should tell you

Agree on the outcomes the provider will report and the level of detail for each. A single project may include assets returned for reuse, resold equipment, physically destroyed media and materials sent for recovery. Request a way to reconcile quantities and exceptions against the receiving record.

Keep the asset disposition and data outcome distinct. Resale tells you where the equipment went; a separate sanitization record shows how its data was addressed. Ask how the provider documents outcomes from downstream vendors.

How ecoTech handles it

Every asset is routed by pathway: sanitization or destruction, reuse and resale evaluation, parts recovery, or recycling. Reuse, recovery and recycling decisions stay connected to final reporting, and the project closes with a record of certificates, reconciliation details and disposition results.

Question to ask your ITAD provider

Can you document the final outcome of our assets and materials, including downstream processing and separate evidence of data sanitization?
