01

Planning & Pickup

Electronic waste includes retired devices, components and infrastructure such as computers, servers, displays and networking equipment. These assets may contain sensitive data, reusable parts and materials that require controlled handling, so they should move through a documented recovery process rather than the general waste stream.

Programs can include computers, laptops, mobile devices, servers, storage systems, network hardware, data-bearing media, office electronics, displays, peripherals, batteries, eligible universal waste and other commercial technology assets. Share an inventory or photographs with our team to confirm the right pathway for unusual equipment.

Start with a high-level inventory, the pickup location, access requirements and your preferred timeline. ecoTech will review the equipment, clarify security and reporting needs, and recommend the containers, labor and transportation plan required for the project.

Yes. ecoTech coordinates technology recovery projects for organizations with one site or many locations across the country. The service plan is tailored to the volume, geography, timing, on-site requirements and documentation standards of each program.

Yes. These projects can combine inventory planning, packing, on-site labor, secure transportation, data-bearing asset controls, reuse evaluation and final reporting. A coordinated plan helps equipment leave the site safely and on schedule without losing visibility into individual asset groups.

02

Data Security

Data protection begins before pickup. ecoTech can establish handling instructions, asset tracking, secure transportation and an approved data-sanitization or destruction method, then document the completed work through the reporting package defined for your project.

Data wiping uses a controlled process to overwrite information so eligible media can potentially be reused. Physical destruction makes the device unusable by shredding or otherwise destroying it. The appropriate method depends on the media type, data sensitivity, reuse goals and your organization’s policy requirements.

Documentation can be configured before the project begins and may include asset-level records, chain-of-custody information, certificates of recycling or data destruction, and summary reporting. Defining deliverables in advance ensures the final package supports your internal audit and compliance needs.

Yes. Data center projects can include planning, equipment identification, rack and cable removal, secure handling of drives and other media, logistics, reuse or resale evaluation, recycling and final reconciliation. Scope is developed around site controls, downtime windows and the complexity of the infrastructure.

03

Cost & Recovery

Cost depends on the equipment mix, volume, condition, location, access, labor, transportation, data-security requirements and reporting scope. Assets with recoverable value may offset part of the program cost. ecoTech reviews these variables before providing a project-specific proposal.

Qualified equipment may be suitable for reuse, resale or parts recovery after data requirements are satisfied. ecoTech can evaluate eligible assets, direct them to the appropriate recovery channel and report the resulting disposition or value according to the agreed program structure.

Explore IT asset disposition and value recovery.

Yes. Organizations with ongoing equipment turnover can use scheduled pickups, dedicated containers or a customized recurring program. The right cadence depends on available storage, asset volume, security expectations and how frequently your teams need documentation.

ecoTech can help municipalities structure public collection events, permanent drop-off options and container programs alongside internal government asset services. Programs can be planned around resident access, site logistics, accepted materials, security controls and public reporting needs.

04

Standards & Compliance

Look for current, independently audited certifications that match the services and facilities involved in your project. Relevant standards may address responsible electronics recycling, secure information destruction, quality, environmental management, worker safety and downstream accountability. Always review certificate scope—not just the logo.

Review ecoTech’s certifications and standards.

Ask how the provider controls chain of custody, protects data, qualifies downstream partners, evaluates reusable assets, manages exceptions and reports final outcomes. Verify insurance, certifications and facility scope, and make sure pricing, service responsibilities and documentation are defined before equipment moves.

Not sure where to begin?

A useful first inventory does not need to be perfect.

Start with the equipment types, approximate quantities, number of locations, timing and any data-security requirements. Those details are enough for ecoTech to help define the next step.
